N2  - Soviet Space Stations as Analogs (2nd Edition). The Soviets have had a space station in orbit since April 19,1971, when the Salyut 1 was launched. Salyut 2 broke up in orbit before it was ever occupied. On Feb 20, 1986, the core of a larger and more complex station system was launched: the third generation "Mir" (which means "world" or "peace"). This report will focus on the second generation stations namely the Salyut 6 and Salyut 7. Included is a brief introduction on the Mir.
