Africa - The politics of Independence. This book is an essay on the transformation of Africa from a continent of dependent colonies to one of independent states. The author describes Africa before the coming of the white men; the nature of colonial domination; the way colonialism destroyed the old tribal societies and created new groups of African laborers, town dwellers, civil servants, and intellectuals who eventually overthrew the colonial power itself; and the new problems of achieving political stability, economic viability and cultural identity - of independent Africa.
