Summary: The book touches on the coming of European to colonize Africa between years 1880-1900. African nations underwent colonial exploitation from which many of them emerged recently. In this book, one of African's leading historians examines the perceptions and responses of Africans, reinterpreting the colonial experience from the standpoint of the colonized. The author divides the colonization process into three: Partition, occupation and administration. He xeplores the strategies of opposition and accommodation adapted at each stage by various groups, leading to nationalist and Pan-Africanist ideologies, which culminated in the period of revolution and decolonization which began after World war II
