This absorbing and carefully compiled (Series) stresses the importance of the human element in military leadership. No writer today is better qualified to address this theme than the superb stroryteller, Keen observer, outstanding former athlete, inspiring commander and gentle teacher. The title of this book is derived from a real situation when the author, the Colonel Newman, led his troops off the bullet-riddled invasion beach with the exhortation, `` Get the hell off the beach........Get up and get moving. Follow me" That wwas in October, 1944, on Red Beach, Lyte, during the retaking of the Philippines. The author was decorated with the Distinguished service cross, the Army's second highest award for bravery for his action that day on Red Beach.
