| General note | The Korean War was the first major armed clash between Free World and Communist forces, as the so-called Cold War turned hot from 1950 to 1953. Brief histories, organized into five distinct phases, are accessible and readable commemorative studies designed to enhance understanding of the U.S. Army's role and achievements in the Korean conflict. More than a half century has passed since the end of the conflict, yet the lessons about military preparedness, global strategy, coalition warfare, and the courage and perseverance of the individual soldier still resonate strong. Today the Korean peninsula remains divided, with a militarily strong, economically weak, and unpredictable North Korea posing a continued threat and challenge to the global strategic environment. |
